Turtle Nests Take A Hit By Storms
Its hurricane season, and that means, inevitably oceans are going to be changed. However, it was on land that sea turtles took the hit. In Florida, the turtle nests were pounded with strong waves caused by the storms which left the nests constantly wet.
The soaked nests meant that little oxygen could get to the eggs, leaving them infertile. Hurricanes are natural threats to turtles, but for a species that has been depleted through human carelessness, a hit like this, needless to say, is not good.
On some beaches, over 50 nests were lost. Good news is that 9,000 turtles hatched before the storm hit. I am not sure the total of ones that did not make it.
