His work has taken him around the world on assignments as diverse as photographing the planet's longest underwater cave in Mexico and nesting sea snakes on a tiny island near Borneo. Ralph Clevenger grew up on the coast of North Africa and began diving in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea at the age of 7 with his father. He eventually went on to study zoology at San Diego State University and worked as a diver/biologist for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California before attending the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California. Lured by the challenge of marine wildlife photography, Jurgen Freund acquired an underwater camera even before learning how to scuba-dive in 1981 in the cold lakes of Germany. Tim Calver is a freelance photographer who lives in Miami Beach, Florida. He developed his career and his unique style at the Bimini Biological Field Station on South Bimini Island in the Bahamas, where he lived and worked for 6 years.
