Gates had an impressive display at DEMA 2008, and John Ellerbrock gave us a great tour of the products on display. They were featuring their old workhorse housings for cameras like the Sony HC9, FX7/VIu and FX1/Z1U but also had two new monsters housings for us to feast our eyes on.  At center was the Sony PMW-EX1 which is a full 1920 x 1080 3 chip camera which records to flash media at a high data rate. We know how many underwater videographers are sitting at the edge of their seats waiting for this one, and it's well worth it.

Next up was the prototype for the RED ONE, a.k.a. the camera that everyone drools over and nearly needs to take a mortgage out to afford. For those who aren't familiar with RED ONE, this is a "4K camera" that shoots four times greater resolution than current HD and allows for digital movie production. In other words, this camera is set to take the industry by storm, and is a real revolution.  Gates is the only one making a housing for the RED ONE currently, and it seems to come with every feature you could possibly want except a drool cloth. This was definitely one of the highlights for me at DEMA. The housing will come out in Q1 of next year, and John will get to take it down before then. Feast your eyes...
